Priorities for 2018-2019
In a meeting in March 2018, our members told us they want UUJO to focus our priorities in four policy areas for the years 2018 and 2019 to Spring 2020.
- Voting Issues/Defending Our Democracy including Issue 1 work in 2018.
- Poor People’s Campaign in Ohio (racial, environmental, economic, and voter justice issues)
- Anti-Racism/Anti-White Supremacy
- Immigration
The UUJO Board approved these four as our Priority Issues for two years.
2019 to March 2020 is the second year of working with these priorities. UUJO is able to offer advocacy, education, direct action and witnessing in these priority areas to the extent we have interested and willing volunteers.
As a volunteer-driven organization, we can only pursue these important priorities with participation by volunteers like you.
What can you do? Get involved! Engage!
- Come out to UUJO events, especially our Fall Annual Assembly and Spring Gatherings and our pubic witness actions at the Ohio Statehouse.
- Attend webinars and discussions.
- Assist our Website, Facebook Page and Twitter volunteers with research and help edit and write materials needed. And gather information about potential partner organizations.
- Do some topic research. Find and share info about Ohio legislation and major developments and send to the UUJO office – uujoanvanb@gmail.com
- Donate to enable UUJO to offer events and public witness as well as maintain our part time staff.
- Apply to join the UUJO Board – help organize meetings, advocacy events and information sessions
Making a difference in Ohio depends on active participation by UUJO members who are interested in these issues. So get involved now by contacting Rev. Joan Van Becealere at uujoanvanb@gmail.com or talk with one of our UUJO Board members. LINK to Board
And what about the other issues? They are important too. However, given our size, we are not able to organize to make other issues a priority focus yet. We do work with many collaboration partners with other foci and we will keep you informed of other issues, especially through our Ohio Legislative Update Page <LINK. And if a good witnessing opportunity or a key piece of legislation presents itself, we will certainly become involved.
We invite you to get involved to help build Beloved Community in Ohio.
