Our newspapers continue to serve an important function for public discourse. Letters to the editor educate your community, inform legislators, and heighten civil discourse.

TO WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Find your Newspaper below – follow their instructions for submission.

Use the sample letters below as a guide, but add in your own story.

Send the letter using their form or email. Follow their word limit requirements.

HELPFUL TIPS

Take your time to make sure it is clear and concise.

Depending on your paper, letters are 100-300 words (normally).

Include correct contact info! Newspapers verify identity.

Emphasize why this matters to you as a person of faith.

Submitting to a Local Newspaper

A summary of major Ohio newspaper requirements and media outlets by region are below. Please keep in mind that it can be helpful to refer to a recent relevant article or op-ed in your LTE to make it more timely.  Be sure to check your city’s paper to find guidance on word count. 

Here are many helpful links for local papers, but if you are submitting to another paper, you can often find their preferred way of submission at the bottom of a newspaper’s website in their footer (look for “submit news” or “contact us”).
